| You have accomplished the coveted goal of getting
your private pilot license. Now you want to expand your knowledge of
aviation and improve yourself as a better and safer pilot. The Instrument Rating
provides this increased knowledge and also increases your safety as a
pilot. In addition, the Instrument Rating allows the private pilot to
operate in weather below visual flight rule standards. Wright Aero
highly recommends adding this rating to your private pilot
certificate. The Instrument Rating generally costs between $4,500 -
$5,500 depending on the amount of cross-country flight time currently
held. The total training time can take as little as a month to a month
and a half. These numbers depend on your experience and how much
time you are able to commit to training.
Below is a detailed list of the requirements for the Instrument
Rating:
- Hold at least a current Private Pilot license
- 50 hours of pilot-in-command cross-country flight time
- 40 hours of instrument training
- 3 hours of flight training in preparation for the flight
test within 60 days prior to the checkride
- Pass the knowledge test with at least a 70%
- Pass the practical test
