| Becoming a Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) and
instructing students in multi-engine aircraft is a very
rewarding experience. You will become proficient in both normal and
abnormal aspects of
multi-engine flight. In addition,
you will gain the knowledge necessary to instruct on the finer points
of twin-engine aerodynamics and performance, just to name a few.
The flight training should be completed within 5 - 10 hours of
flying, assuming you are multi-engine current. There will be roughly the
same amount of ground instruction to fine tune your aeronautical
knowledge. The average cost for the MEI is between $1,000 - $2,000.
Below is a detailed list of requirements for the MEI:
- Current multi-engine commercial pilot license with
instrument rating
- Current flight instructor certificate
- 15 hours as pilot-in-command of multi-engine aircraft
- Pass the practical test
